Colorful lights, music, holiday treats, shopping and more await members of the University of Central Missouri community when the university hosts the annual Holiday Market, Jingle on the Quad, First Lady’s Holiday Concert and other special events Nov. 29-30. All of these activities are free and open to the public.

Demonstrating the power of philanthropic support, the University of Central Missouri will celebrate Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28 with the rededication of the James C. Kirkpatrick Library (JCKL) at the facility’s first-floor Read and Relax area. The public is invited to attend the ceremony at noon to hear remarks by university leaders and check out state-of-the-art renovations that include modernized study and collaborative learning spaces, new study nooks, a wellness room, and soft furnishings made possible by the Koch Family Trust.

Making the safety of students, employees and campus visitors a priority, the University of Central Missouri has established multiple initiatives to meet this goal with the help of $326,000 in grant funding since August 2022. The grant-funded projects initiated by the UCM Department of Public Safety are made possible by campus, local, state and federal sources, and include traffic safety education and equipment, impaired and hazardous driving enforcement, anti-terrorism equipment, protective equipment for police officers, and interoperable communications equipment.

Military Times, which provides the largest comprehensive annual ranking of higher education institutions for military service members and veterans, has named the University of Central Missouri among its 2023 Best for Vets: Colleges. UCM earned the highest overall rankings among all public and private Missouri institutions.

A classic family-friendly tale comes to life as the University of Central Missouri’s Theatre and Dance and Music programs present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” in the James L. Highlander Theatre. Tickets for the final weekend performances at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 16, 17, and 18, are still available.

“The Great Air Race: Glory, Tragedy and the Dawn of American Aviation,” is a recent book by journalist and amateur pilot John Lancaster about America’s famous 1919 transcontinental air race. The story of that race has inspired a group of University of Central Missouri aviation students and their faculty advisor to develop a virtual re-creation of the groundbreaking, cross-country flight that captured the world’s attention over 100 years ago. The virtual re-creation is intended to bring renewed awareness to this piece of trailblazing American history while also raising funds to support student activities.
