While Mules football fans watched their favorite team capture a victory Saturday, Oct. 15, the 2022 Homecoming celebration at the University of Central Missouri had winners of many different kinds with contests and special events that took place on campus throughout the week. The university’s Office of Student Activities released this year’s competition results, many of them announced during the football game.

The University of Central Missouri School of Visual and Performing Arts is hosting a public musical presentation about the World War II-era “Victory Vertical Piano” program by 2010 UCM Distinguished Music Alumnus Dr. Garik Pedersen at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in Hart Recital Hall, located in the Utt Music Building. The public is invited to attend this free event co-sponsored by the UCM Department of Music and the UCM Speaker Series.

Joining the University of Central Missouri’s Mixed Reality Software Development Team greatly benefited recent UCM graduate Sean Martin as he launches his new career in computer science. Martin earned a bachelor’s degree in cybersecurity and a bachelor’s in computer science software development, graduating cum laude in May 2022.

WARRENSBURG, MO -- The University of Central Missouri's Computer Information Systems (CIS) program in the Harmon College of Business and Professional Studies on Friday, Oct. 21 will celebrate its 52nd anniversary from 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new UCM-Aureus Artificial Intelligence Lab, located at the Missouri Innovation Campus in Lee's Summit. Members of the campus community and the public are invited to attend the event. University President Roger Best will conduct the ribbon cutting at 2 p.m., and there will be remarks by Abhishek Pakhira, chief operating officer at Aureus Tech Systems.

A class of 35 individuals who are involved with the Leadership Missouri program visited the University of Central Missouri on Wednesday, Oct. 12, as part of a seven-month-long professional development and learning opportunity sponsored by the Missouri Chamber Foundation.

Along with traditional events such as a parade and football game, the University of Central Missouri’s 2022 Homecoming celebration will also be an opportunity to recognize six individuals whose professional achievements and volunteer service earned them recognition as UCM Distinguished Alumni. This is the highest form of recognition given to alumni at an annual ceremony sponsored by the UCM Alumni Foundation.

University of Central Missouri President Roger Best this week encouraged faculty, staff and students to appreciate the differences each individual brings to the campus community because it contributes to the institution’s strength. His remarks were made to a gathering at the quadrangle celebrating the first UCM Inclusivity Day, an event that coincided with a national observance.

Coinciding with “World Inclusion Day” on Monday, Oct. 10, the University of Central Missouri is hosting its own festivities thanks to a Student Government Association (SGA) referendum that was approved this semester by University President Roger Best. The first “UCM Inclusivity Day,” sponsored by the SGA, is planned for noon to 3 p.m. Monday at the quadrangle.

University of Central Missouri (UCM) Theatre and Dance presents the play “Stop Kiss” by Diana Son in the Nickerson Black Box Theatre Oct. 6- 9. “Stop Kiss” is the opening play of UCM Theatre and Dance’s 2022-2023 Mainstage Season, which is themed “HERstory,” providing presentations dedicated to women and their stories.
