How to Support Someone Who Is Ending Tobacco Use

 

Once an individual has decided to end their tobacco use, they will benefit from supportive friends and family. Whether you are a tobacco-user, going through your own quit process, or a non-user, you can help someone you care about who has decided to end tobacco use by being part of their support team, asking how you can be most helpful and/or encouraging them through their quit process. If they are considering quitting but aren't quite ready yet, you can assist them by helping them identify their own reasons for quitting, setting a quit date or tobacco use reduction goal, and offering to be part of their support network.
