Business Analytics and Information Systems, BS
Turn data into decisions and technology into business solutions with a Bachelor of Science in Business Analytics and Information Systems from the University of Central Missouri. You’ll build the business and technical skills to analyze information, solve problems and develop the systems organizations rely on every day.
UCM’s Business Analytics and Information Systems BSBA combines business fundamentals with hands-on experience in data analytics and information systems. You’ll work with tools used by professionals, including SQL, Python, Microsoft Azure and Power BI, while learning how to gather, manage, analyze and communicate data.
You don’t need an extensive programming background to get started. The program is designed for students who are interested in technology and data-driven problem-solving and want career options that connect the technical and business sides of an organization.

Tailor your degree by choosing one of two 12-hour areas of focus:
- Business Analytics: Build deeper skills in using data to identify patterns, answer business questions and support better decisions.
- Information Systems: Focus on the technology, systems and processes organizations use to manage information and operate effectively.
Both options give you a foundation in business, analytics and technology while allowing you to develop specialized skills that align with your interests and career goals.

UCM’s Business Analytics and Information Systems program prepares you to understand both the information organizations collect and the technology they use to put that information to work.
You’ll develop skills in business, analytics and information systems while gaining hands-on experience with tools such as SQL, Python, Microsoft Azure and Power BI. Through applied coursework, you’ll learn to:
Explore data, technology and emerging business applications
As you advance through the program, you’ll take courses that show how organizations use technology and data to solve problems, improve systems and make better decisions. Highlights include:
- CIS 4690 – System Architecture and Development: Explore how information systems are designed and developed to support organizational needs.
- CIS 4683 – Big Data Visualization and Reporting: Learn how to turn complex data into clear visualizations and reports that help organizations understand information and make decisions.
- CIS 4686 – Business Applications of Machine and Deep Learning: Explore how machine learning and deep learning can be applied to business problems and data-driven decision-making.
You’ll choose either the Business Analytics or Information Systems area of focus to develop additional expertise based on your career interests.
