Greater Degree of Commitment

 

In 2010, the University of Central Missouri's Board of Governors committed our campus to the Strategic Governance Model for Student Success, an initiative that focuses our mission on a university-wide commitment to helping every student succeed at UCM. 

One of the most meaningful aspects of our community is the diversity of our campus. As we continue to provide a strong, meaningful UCM experience, we are engaging in a “Greater Degree of Commitment” within our campus community to ensure that diversity is a shared value and student success is a shared responsibility. We support initiatives that are consistent with this value. 

Below are a series of resources, services, programs, and supports that help define our “Greater Degree of Commitment,” and serve as areas of emphasis for 2016 and beyond at UCM. We have a campus defined by students, faculty, and staff who demonstrate this culture of commitment, and we must continue to make certain we are doing everything possible to provide an inclusive and celebratory campus community that values differences.

Bias Reporting

If you have witnessed or experienced a bias incident that has occurred within the UCM community, please use the form below to report the incident anonymously or with your name. A bias incident is an act of intolerance which is committed against any person, group or property and which discriminates, stereotypes, harasses or excludes anyone based on one or more of these:

UCMAlerts

UCMAlerts are notifications sent via email, text message and push notification to members of the campus community. They provide essential information about campus closures, safety alerts, emergencies, severe weather and other significant UCM updates. UCMAlerts uses the Everbridge notification system.

UCM employees and students are automatically enrolled in UCMAlerts powered by Everbridge, and parents can sign up to receive notifications.

What is the Greater Degree of Commitment?

The Greater Degree of Commitment is UCM’s way of working inclusion and a celebratory stance to all difference on campus. We will work as a community to change the culture of the UCM community by focusing on bringing all groups together, rather than separation.

What is the difference between inclusion and diversity?

Diversity is used to describe the differences between people. The word diversity in a higher educational setting is typically used to discuss social differences, such as race, socio-economic status, class, gender, sexual orientation, country of origin, ability, intellectual traditions, as well as cultural, political, religious, and other affiliations.

What tools do you have to offer faculty for classroom inclusion?

Will there be mandatory diversity training for faculty, staff, and students?

Training, as necessary, will be dictated by the university leadership.
