Partnership includes discounted tuition and other benefitsstudents-in-graduation-caps-and-gowns

Thanks to a partnership with the University of Central Missouri, Missouri DOC employees can complete the education needed to excel in the workforce. DOC employees are eligible for discounted tuition, including both undergraduate and graduate degree programs as well as certificate programs. UCM is a fully accredited, innovative institution offering a top-quality education while remaining one of the most affordable universities in the nation. We offer face-to-face courses, online and hybrid courses designed to fit the busy schedule of working adults. Our campuses are located in both Warrensburg and Lee’s Summit. 


Adult Learners Have the Opportunity to:

  • Sign up for short-term certificate programs focusing on specific career skills and fields
  • Enroll in college credit courses and work toward undergraduate and graduate degree completion.

Through this innovative partnership, the university will provide Department of Corrections employees with the following:

  • A 5-percent discount on online and UCM Lee’s Summit courses
  • The waiving of undergraduate and graduate application fees
  • A 15-percent discount on non-credit, non-semester training tuition through the Missouri Safety Center and Online and Learning Engagement
  • NOTE: UCM staff will also review Department of Corrections training to determine credit for prior learning on a case-by-case basis.

Featured Degree Programs

During a recent survey of Department of Corrections employees, the top degree choice was criminal justice with nearly 37 percent selecting this option. Other preferred degrees included psychology at 15 percent and business/finance at almost 12 percent. The majority of respondents also preferred an online program.

  • Criminal Justice and Criminology - UCM Criminal Justice and Criminology degrees are 100-percent online and include Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees with our programs consistently ranked among the nation’s best.
  • Psychology - UCM undergraduate programs include a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology. Our graduate programs are Master of Science degree in Psychology as well as Master of Science in Psychology Behavior Analysis and Therapy.
  • Business - Our comprehensive School of Business Administration includes both undergraduate and graduate degrees in areas such as finance, management, marketing, computer information systems, accountancy and risk management.

Featured Certificate Programs

UCM’s Center for Workforce and Professional Education offers a number of industry-recognized certificate programs. Many courses help students prepare for certification exams with vouchers for the exams often included. Online, face-to-face and hybrid options are available.

  • Public Administration Graduate Certificate - Earn your industry-recognized graduate certificate by completing all five short-term courses or select the courses that fit your goals.
  • Crisis and Disaster Management Certificate - This nationally recognized program includes four certificates -- Business Continuity, Emergency Management, Emergency Services Management and Environmental Hazards. These certificates will help you make a difference in the world by building your knowledge base, developing skills and providing opportunities for you to practice what you’ve learned through community service.
  • SPHR (Senior Professional In Human Resources) - This course prepares experienced human resources professionals for the SPHR industry-recognized exam.
