UCM Provost Bridgmon Named Recipient of Fulbright U.S. International Education Administrator Award

The University of Central Missouri today announced that Phil Bridgmon, Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs, has received a Fulbright U.S. International Education Administrator award to India from the United States Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Bridgmon is among approximately 10 U.S. citizens who will take part in the India-Nehru IEA program in March 2024.

NY Times Bestselling Author, First Woman Inducted into National Sportscasters and Sports Writers Hall of Fame Speaks at UCM Feb. 21

Sally Jenkins, a four-time New York Times bestselling author who most recently wrote “The Right Call: What Sports Teach Us About Work and Life,” will present an author talk at the University of Central Missouri Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. Her presentation is free and open to the public and will take place in Nahm Auditorium in the W.C. Morris Science Building. She will be available for a book signing following her remarks.

Supaman Brings Unique Blend of Music, Comedy, Dance to UCM Feb. 19 While Introducing Audience to Native American Culture

Part of the 10th annual Trading Moon Native American Arts Festival, the performing artist professionally known as Supaman, brings his unique blend of hip-hop music, comedy and dance to the University of Central Missouri at 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19. The live, free concert introducing Native American culture to the campus community takes place in Hendricks Hall.

Kickpatrick Library and History Department at UCM Host Traveling Exhibit 'Boom! The Rise and Fall of Missouri's Black Business District

The University of Central Missouri’s James C. Kirkpatrick Library and the UCM History Department are partnering to host "Boom! The Rise and Fall of Missouri's Black Business District." This traveling exhibit is produced by the Missouri State Museum and inspired by the Missouri State Parks-produced booklet “The Business: African-American Business People from Missouri’s Past” and will be on display Jan. 31 to Feb. 29 in the JCKL Read and Relax area.

Music Professor Mia Kim Performs at Carnegie Hall and at UCM

How do you get to world famous Carnegie Hall? One way is to follow University of Central Missouri Professor Mia Kim. The Piano Area Coordinator and Director of the Community Music Program at UCM will travel to New York City for a performance in the historic hall on Jan. 30. While area residents may not be able to make the trip to Carnegie Hall, they will have an opportunity to see her perform in person during a concert on Feb. 20 at UCM.

Members of the University of Central Missouri community are mourning the loss of Walter “Walt” Hicklin, a Warrensburg resident who touched the lives of many students and professional colleagues at UCM during a career that included teaching, mentoring, coaching and serving as an award-winning administrator. He passed away on Jan. 19.

Missouri Innovation Campus Program's Cohorts Excel Academically as They Prepare for IT and Engineering Careers

Students in the nationally recognized Missouri Innovation Campus program recently achieved academic honors while participating in this rigorous, career-focused degree initiative. The one-of-a-kind program is made possible through a partnership including the University of Central Missouri, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District, Metropolitan Community College and more than 70 business partners. The program prepares IT and engineering graduates for a successful career, decreases the cost of a college degree and reduces the time it takes to earn a bachelor’s degree while eliminating the skills gap and providing real-world learning experiences through three-year, year-round, paid internships.

UCM Theatre and Dance 'Remember the Dance' Returns for Benefit Performance on the James L. Highlander Theatre Stage

University of Central Missouri UCM Theatre and Dance will perform its original dance play, “Remember the Dance,” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at the James L. Highlander Theatre. The show, which is a fundraising performance to aid student performers and crew, was recently selected as one of four invited productions to be featured at the 2024 Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) in Des Moines, Iowa.

The University of Central Missouri Athletics "Literacy Team" has been named one of 25 finalists for the 2024 NCAA Division II Award of Excellence, the NCAA announced Friday, Jan. 5. The Award of Excellence honors initiatives during the past year that exemplify the Division II philosophy, community engagement and student-athlete leadership. UCM was one of eight finalists to earn an at-large selection for submitting a strong nomination that was not chosen as the finalist for their conference.

Combining their deep appreciation for the University of Central Missouri with their desire to support students, a Leawood, Kansas, couple has created an endowed scholarship for students who participated in Operation Breakthrough’s Ignition Lab, powered by Travis Kelce’s Eighty-Seven and Running Foundation. The first Homer and Becky Kay “I Matter” Scholarship was awarded in fall 2023 to a young Kansas City resident pursuing his degree in Music Technology at UCM.
