Approval of UCM Employee Health, Dental Insurance Renewal, Noland Football Office Upgrades Among Board of Governors Recent Actions

University of Central Missouri employee health and dental insurance renewal for 2024, renovation of the Terry Noland Football Offices, and renewal of KMOS-TV Public Broadcasting Systems (PB) dues were approved by the Board of Governors when it met in its Aug. 17 plenary session. These actions took place shortly after the board began its meeting with the swearing in of its new student board member and recognition of newly named emeriti faculty and staff members.

UCM Athletics Legend Jerry Hughes Honored Through Building Renaming

During the four decades Jerry Hughes served in a leadership post within University of Central Missouri Intercollegiate Athletics, the UCM Multipurpose Building became much like a second home. He devoted countless hours at the institution’s main indoor sports arena watching the growth of thousands of student athletes, the building of regional and national championship athletics teams, and the countless celebrations that came with the home-teams’ successes. Although Hughes passed away on Jan. 21, 2023 while he was serving as Vice President of Intercollegiate Athletics, his professional legacy will live on with the Multipurpose Building being renamed the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center.

UCM's Get the Red Out Offers Family Fun Saturday, Sept. 9

A University of Central Missouri tradition that brings both the campus and community together for a day of fun, food and more, Get the Red Out is planned for 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 in Warrensburg. No admission is charged for activities that take place in the area that encompasses a section of Holden Street between South and Clark streets on the west side of campus.

Federal VA Grant Supports Voices of the Heartland Sharing Life Stories of Underrepresented WWII, Civil War Veterans

Within a half-hour drive of the University of Central Missouri, rows of neatly-placed headstones line the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville honoring individuals who served in the United States military. With only small bits of information etched into each of the hundreds of gray granite monuments that dot this vast burial ground, the life stories of many underrepresented World War II veterans mostly remain untold. This will soon change, however, thanks to a $399,000 Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA) grant that will also cover project work at Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Sedalia Police Department Donates Former Patrol Car to Missouri Safety Center

A collaboration that will enhance learning experiences for individuals seeking law enforcement careers, the Sedalia Police Department has donated a used patrol car to the Missouri Safety Center at the University of Central Missouri. The formal presentation event took place the same week a group of 27 Central Missouri Police Academy (CMPA) cadets began a training program that will allow them to utilize the car at the Safety Center’s Highway Safety Instructional Park, south of UCM’s main campus in Warrensburg.

UCM Board of Governors Member, Marvin E. Wright, Passes Away

Remembered for his dedication, commitment and the many contributions made in service to students, faculty and staff at the University of Central Missouri, Marvin E. “Bunky” Wright, Columbia, passed away on Friday, July 14 after an illness. A longtime attorney who served various public and private higher education institutions in Missouri, he was nearing his 14th consecutive year as a member of the UCM Board of Governors at the time of his passing.
