Award-Winning Author's Work Brought to Big Screen at the University of Central Missouri

Award-winning fiction writer Alexander Weinstein will host a screening of the film After Yang at 6 p.m. Nov. 2, in the University of Central Missouri’s Elliot Student Union Auditorium, 511 S. Holden St., in Warrensburg. At 5 p.m., UCM will host Weinstein for an author talk, book signing and reception in the Union Atrium. The event is free and open to the public.

University of Central Missouri Digital Media Production Student Receives National Recognition for Work at KMOS PBS

KMOS-TV, the PBS station licensed to the University of Central Missouri, recently received four Telly Awards honoring excellence in local television programming. One of these awards was presented to KMOS student producer Leilani Craig who competed against established producers in professional categories with her production of “K-Pop Rising: Kansas City Arirang Festival 2022.”

An annual event that takes place in the fall, the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, will convene court on Oct. 11 on the University of Central Missouri campus. Campus members and the public have an opportunity to observe the judicial system in action, beginning at 9 a.m. in the Elliott Student Union.

MIC Program's Newest Degree Combines Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science to Meet Area Business Needs

Beginning next year, the Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC) program will launch a highly sought-after bachelor’s degree combining artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and data science. The Bachelor of Science in Data Science will start in summer 2024, said Stan Elliott, MIC program director, and is offered through the MIC program’s partners – the University of Central Missouri, Lee’s Summit R-7 School District and Metropolitan Community College.

A lecture by the artist on Oct. 9 provides an opportunity for all who are interested to learn more about Smith and his work.

The official launch of the university’s newest construction project took place near the patio area of Traditions, located adjacent to the new facility in the university-owned Pertle Springs.

Dr. Alan Wenger, University of Central Missouri professor of trumpet, will present a faculty recital at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 26 at the First United Methodist Church in Warrensburg. The program, titled “Portraits and Prose: Musical Depictions for Trumpet and Organ,” will feature works for trumpet and organ that depict events, visual art, or or literature. Dr. Wenger will be joined by guest organist Dr. Donna Hetrick and UCM Professor of Voice Dr. Jacob Sentgeorge.

Citing factors that include an overall increase of approximately 10% in fall student enrollment, an operating budget that is 5.25% larger than the previous fiscal year, and a strategic plan that guides the institution, the University of Central Missouri is in a position of strength. That is the message President Roger Best shared with faculty and staff when he presented his annual State of the University remarks on Sept. 14. The president’s sixth consecutive SOU address since his 2018 appointment by the Board of Governors took place in the James L. Highlander Theatre.
