While mobile phone users rely on applications (apps) to complete a number of tasks, these apps are often subject to software bugs that result in crashes which cause them to fail. Thanks to the work of a group of researchers, including one University of Central Missouri assistant professor, app developers now have a tool that will help them resolve crash issues with less human effort.

The University of Central Missouri annually conducts the Homecoming Royalty competition to select a King and Queen. Nine King candidates and nine Queen candidates are vying for Homecoming Royalty this weekend, with top contestants to be introduced during half-time of the Mules football game Saturday, Oct. 23. Homecoming Royalty will also participate in the parade that begins at 9 a.m. the same day.

Although longtime Independence resident Phillip (Phil) B. Roberts only briefly attended the University of Central Missouri, he has never forgotten the impact the institution had on his life. He recently expressed his appreciation for what his higher education experiences have meant to him, and his desire to help students, through a $1 million gift to the UCM Alumni Foundation.

The University of Central Missouri will offer a new course focusing on the Freedom of Information Act and how to respond to FOIA requests. The three-hour course, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) course, will be offered online from Jan. 10 through March 4.

WARRENSBURG, MO – Dr. Miaozong Wu, CSP, ARM, associate professor and program coordinator of the Master of Science in Occupational Safety Management at University of Central Missouri, was recently awarded a $131,250 grant from the United States Department of Labor (DOL). UCM is the only institution in Missouri to receive funds through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Susan Harwood Training Grant program. Prior to this new grant, Wu and his team successfully completed two other OSHA Susan Harwood grants between 2019 and 2021.

In a year that recognizes many rich traditions, the University of Central Missouri is going the extra mile to celebrate its longtime mascot. When visitors attend the 2021 Homecoming festivities, they can watch UCM attempt to achieve a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ title for the largest ridden parade of mules. An event that annually brings thousands of people to the campus and Warrensburg communities, the Homecoming parade is planned for 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23.

Featuring Kansas City Chiefs t-shirt giveaways and opportunities to win prizes, the UCM Homecoming Blood Drive will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 18-19 at the ballroom of the Elliott Student Union.

WARRENSBURG, MO – In recognition of graduates’ outstanding achievements, the University of Central Missouri will celebrate its 2021 Homecoming with the annual Distinguished Alumni Dinner at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, in the Sandra Temple Elliott Ballroom of the Elliott Student Union. Two individuals will be honored as this year’s Distinguished Alumni, and five alumni will be recognized as 2020 honorees. Those who register for the dinner (ucmfoundation.org/2021distinguishedalumnidinner) will be able to watch the program via livestream.
