Discover A Global Perspective

The University of Central Missouri is committed to cultivating a global perspective among its students, faculty and staff. We do that by welcoming international students to UCM from nearly 50 countries—and by offering an extensive array of study abroad and exchange programs. Each year we place nearly 500 students in study abroad programs throughout the world. We’re also one of the few universities in the country to offer generous scholarships to support you in your study abroad journey.

Choose Your Experience

With the experience and advising of our study abroad staff, you can design your own study abroad experience. The options are both broad and deep. You can choose from more than 60 countries—from Italy to China and South Korea to Costa Rica. You also can choose from hundreds of courses—from arts to sciences and business and marketing to modern languages. And of course, you also decide the duration of your study abroad experience—from two weeks to an entire academic year.

Earn College Credit

When you study abroad, you’ll continue to earn UCM credit, which means you’ll be able to stay on track to complete your degree in four years.

Faculty-Led Program

Study with UCM faculty in another country and immerse yourself in the language and culture through our Faculty-Led Study Abroad Program.

What is an Exchange Program?

An exchange program is an agreement made between the University of Central Missouri an a university in another country to "exchange" students, faculty, and ideas to foster international understanding and education. Exchanges are mutually beneficial because as UCM gets to send students to our partner foreign universities, those partner universities get to send students to UCM.

With all of our exchange partners, you get to pay your regular UCM tuition while attending the partner institution for a summer session, semester, or academic year.

What is an ISEP Program?

As a UCM student you also have a unique opportunity to study through ISEP Study Abroad on exchange in addition to UCM exchange partners. ISEP has a network of over 100 exchange partners that are available to you. Depending on the location and semester, participation in exchanges can be competitive. You may visit ISEP's website, under U.S. Students, and choose a semester to see the list of exchanges available and chances of placement.

What is a Faculty-Led Study Abroad Experience?

A faculty-led study abroad program is an academic course or courses that combine traditional classroom learning and experiential learning in an international setting.

  • Led by a UCM faculty member.
  • Enroll in a UCM course and receive direct credit.
  • Visit a country that provides a rich history in your academic area of study.
  • Become immersed in the language you study.
  • Take in a new culture and expand your understanding.
  • Gain hands-on experience.
  • Multiple locations in which you can study.

What is a Third Party Study Abroad Provider?

A third-party study abroad provider offers opportunities to students that extend beyond our exchange partner program options. Costs range depending on length of program and by provider. Usually credit can be transferred into UCM. Third-party providers offer summer, semester and yearlong options. Housing is generally provided by the host institution and is usually included in the total program cost.

It is important to note that you must complete both a UCM study abroad application and the third-party provider application. Third-party provider application fees are non-refundable.
