An entertaining warm-up for the holidays, the University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance presents “Elf: The Musical,” with performances beginning Nov. 12. A toy drive through the run of the show to help children in need and an interpreter for the Nov. 18 production are included.

UCM Transitions to New Education for Service Awards Program Honoring Faculty, Staff and Students Who Exemplify Core Values

UCM President Roger Best recently announced the establishment of the annual Education for Service Awards, which will honor one faculty member, one staff member and one student beginning with the spring 2022 semester. The first nominee applications will be submitted by Dec. 1, 2021 for individuals who exemplify the university’s six core values – Community, Diversity, Excellence, Learning, Opportunity and Service.

The University of Central Missouri Division of Theatre and Dance will celebrate the Highlander Theatre’s 50th year on Friday, Nov. 19, prior to the evening performance of “Elf The Musical.” This event takes place on the same day that the theatre opened at UCM, with the production of “Hamlet” on Nov. 19, 1971.

Governors Amend Design-Build Contract Expanding Scope of Airport Project

In its plenary session Oct. 29, the University of Central Missouri Board of Governors voted to amend the design-build contract for construction of the new terminal and education building at Max B. Swisher Skyhaven Airport. This decision will expand the project which previously had a projected $2.8 million budget to one that will cost approximately $5.1 million, and will enable the facility to better serve community and student aviation needs.

Actuarial Science and Statistics Degree at UCM Nationally Ranked for Affordability

The Actuarial Science and Statistics program at the University of Central Missouri has recently been ranked as one of the top 10 most affordable degree programs of its kind for 2022. Bachelor's Degree Center, a website dedicated to providing users with information pertaining to higher education institutions across the country, placed the program 10th in the recent ranking with UCM being the only Missouri institution to be recognized.

UCM Faculty Member Leads Research Exploring Novel Approach for Determining Cause of Mobile App Crashes

While mobile phone users rely on applications (apps) to complete a number of tasks, these apps are often subject to software bugs that result in crashes which cause them to fail. Thanks to the work of a group of researchers, including one University of Central Missouri assistant professor, app developers now have a tool that will help them resolve crash issues with less human effort.

Eighteen Candidates Seek Homecoming Royalty Title

The University of Central Missouri annually conducts the Homecoming Royalty competition to select a King and Queen. Nine King candidates and nine Queen candidates are vying for Homecoming Royalty this weekend, with top contestants to be introduced during half-time of the Mules football game Saturday, Oct. 23. Homecoming Royalty will also participate in the parade that begins at 9 a.m. the same day.

Professor Wu Awarded Third Federal Grant to Protect Workers in High-risk Industries from Electric Arc Injuries

WARRENSBURG, MO – Dr. Miaozong Wu, CSP, ARM, associate professor and program coordinator of the Master of Science in Occupational Safety Management at University of Central Missouri, was recently awarded a $131,250 grant from the United States Department of Labor (DOL). UCM is the only institution in Missouri to receive funds through the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Susan Harwood Training Grant program. Prior to this new grant, Wu and his team successfully completed two other OSHA Susan Harwood grants between 2019 and 2021.
