Missouri Bicentennial Keynote Lecture on Sectional Tension and Compromise of 1820 Slated for Oct. 16 in Lee's Summit

WARRENSBURG, MO – As Missouri celebrates its bicentennial, History Program faculty members at the University of Central Missouri are helping to coordinate an in-person presentation by Dr. Chris Childers, associate professor of history at Pittsburg State University and author of the book, “Failure of Popular Sovereignty.” His free, public Missouri Bicentennial Keynote lecture is slated for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16 at UCM-Lee’s Summit, the Missouri Innovation Campus (MIC), 1101 NW Innovation Parkway, Lee’s Summit.

Julie Lewis, assistant instructor of digital media production and faculty adviser for the University of Central Missouri’s student-led newspaper, the Muleskinner, is being recognized as one of the College Media Association's 2021 Best Media Advisers in the nation. Lewis was one of three Honor Roll Advisers recognized from four-year institutions.

UCM's Future Teacher Academy Attracts Approximately 450 Students to Explore Possible Careers as Educators

Where will tomorrow’s K-12 teachers come from? For many Missouri school districts, it’s possible these individuals will come from their own classrooms. At least this is one of the hopes of educators who planned and organized the Future Teacher Academy (FTA) at the University of Central Missouri, an event that brought approximately 450 middle school and high school students and 50 faculty sponsors to UCM.

KMOS-TV Presents "Mule Tracks: UCM After 150 Years," New Documentary Airs Homecoming Week

In celebration of the 1871 founding of the University of Central Missouri, originally known as State Normal School No. 2, KMOS-TV has produced an in-depth history drawing on official archives, historian interviews, and recollections of current and former university leaders. Narrated by Marion "Woody" Woods (1450 KOKO/98.5 The Bar,) “Mule Tracks: UCM After 150 Years” details significant events in the evolution of the university’s academic structure and the growth of the campus. This program will premiere on KMOS-HD channel 6.1 at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19.

University of Central Missouri Theatre and Dance will present the 2015 Tony Award-winning drama, “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.” Based on the best-selling book of the same name written by Mark Haddon and adapted for the stage by Simon Stephens, this play follows a neurodivergent boy as he tries to solve the mystery concerning the death of his neighbor’s dog.

UCM Faculty Research Article in 'Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare' Demonstrates Perceived Psychological Impact of COVID-19 on 'College Athletes'

For college athletes and members of other student groups the perceived anxiety surrounding the beginning of a new academic year in times of COVID-19 evokes emotions some students equate with those associated with major events such as a significant injury, surgery, or even losing a loved one. These are among the findings reported in a recent research paper published in the “Journal of Multidisciplinary Healthcare” conducted by a research team that included three University of Central Missouri faculty members, a former graduate assistant, and a faculty member at an Ohio institution.
