While the University of Central Missouri recently concluded the spring semester, much work is being done across campus to adjust as proactively as possible in this new environment while prioritizing the safety and needs of our students as we look toward the fall 2020 semester. Several new initiatives have been announced by university leadership.

The Department of Theatre and Dance held its first “Virtual” Awards Banquet May 2, 2020 via a pre-recorded YouTube link. It was made available on all the department social media platforms at 6 p.m.on the day of the event, and was emailed to patrons and donors who may have missed the link’s posting.

When discussing the impact of global warming, many skeptics often cite examples of glaciers that aren’t retreating as a way to support a belief that human-induced climate change doesn’t exist. Recently published research involving a University of Central Missouri professor, however, shows that new models depicting the long-term nature of glacial movement can demonstrate the pitfalls of making such an assumption.

After considering factors believed to be the most accurate indicators of a student’s ability to succeed in higher education, the University of Central Missouri is making the ACT and SAT optional for admission to the university beginning in fall 2020. This decision moves forward the university’s plan to go test optional for the fall 2021 recruitment cycle, and is in response to maintaining an accessible and affordable education amid the national coronavirus pandemic.

The University of Central Missouri is enhancing its partnership with Whiteman Air Force Base to make continuing their education even more convenient and affordable for military and military-affiliated personnel. Thanks to improvements made this spring, UCM is now offering additional opportunities for remote learning at the base.

The University of Central Missouri is helping nurses to build their professional credentials through its online RN to BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) degree – a program that was recently recognized by the national rankings organization, Intelligent.com.

For families seeking economical assistance in preparing their elementary school children for the fall semester, and to make up for the school closures of the spring semester, KMOS-TV and the University of Central Missouri will provide free on-air classes beginning June 1. KMOS Classroom: Summer School will be broadcast on KMOS channel 6.1 each Monday through Thursday between 9 a.m. and noon.
