Carson First at UCM to Receive NIJ Grant: Will Pursue Study Contributing to Better Understanding of Left-Wing and Environmental Terrorism in U.S.

The principal investigator of a research project designed to develop data sources that could potentially inform law enforcement policy and counterterrorism efforts, Jennifer Carson, Ph.D., professor of criminology and criminal justice at the University of Central Missouri, has been awarded a $506,497 grant from the National Institute of Justice (NIJ). This three-year financial award includes collaboration with faculty members at three other institutions in the United States and abroad.

It is estimated that nearly 3,000 University of Central Missouri students meet federal TRIO program eligibility guidelines. For those who do, UCM is extending an invitation to attend the Student Support Services (SSS) Center Open House, 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, in Elliott Student Union 128.

Missouri Safety Center Collaborates with Agencies on 'Take 1 for Zero' Initiative

The Missouri Safety Center at the University of Central Missouri is teaming up with the Missouri School Boards’ Association and several other collaborating agencies for the “Take 1 for Zero” project, funded through the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Safety and Traffic Division. The goal of the project is to make “1” major impact on roadway safety by focusing on school bus stop arm violations throughout Missouri.

Herman BlackBox Theatre New Play Festival Oct. 29-30 Features Original Student, Alumni Work

The University of Central Missouri Richard Herman Black Box program presents the 2022 New Play Festival in the Nickerson Black Box Theatre at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29- Oct. 30. Doors open at 7 p.m., and admission is free for this program featuring original student and alumni work.

National Safety Leaders Honor Popov with Prevention through Design Award

Dr. Georgi Popov, a university of Central Missouri faculty member who has distinguished himself as a professional leader in the reduction of workplace risks, this month was honored by three national organizations dedicated to safety. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) and the National Safety Council (NSC) partnered in the presentation of the second annual Prevention through Design (PtD) Award to Popov.

Supaman, a performing artist who inspires others by merging into his live concerts Native American culture with comedy, dance and his unique blend of hip-hop music, will perform at the University of Central Missouri on Tuesday, Nov. 8. He takes the stage for this free, public event at 7:30 p.m. in Elliott Student Union 240, as part of the Ninth Annual Trading Moon Native American Arts Festival.

New Mule Grant Funds Financial Gap Not Covered by Other Grants and Scholarships to Make UCM Degree More Accessible and Affordable

In an effort to ensure cost does not dampen a student’s ability to pursue their higher education goals, the University of Central Missouri announces the new Mule Grant program. An initiative just in time for students who are residents of the state of Missouri and plan to begin their undergraduate education in fall 2023, this program is designed to fund the gap between the total cost of tuition and general fees and those expenses covered by federal, state and institutional grants and scholarships.

While Mules football fans watched their favorite team capture a victory Saturday, Oct. 15, the 2022 Homecoming celebration at the University of Central Missouri had winners of many different kinds with contests and special events that took place on campus throughout the week. The university’s Office of Student Activities released this year’s competition results, many of them announced during the football game.

The University of Central Missouri School of Visual and Performing Arts is hosting a public musical presentation about the World War II-era “Victory Vertical Piano” program by 2010 UCM Distinguished Music Alumnus Dr. Garik Pedersen at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in Hart Recital Hall, located in the Utt Music Building. The public is invited to attend this free event co-sponsored by the UCM Department of Music and the UCM Speaker Series.
