University Housing and Dining Services
Board of Governors Residency Requirement
UCM requires first-year and sophomore students under the age of 21 to reside on campus
as part of a two-year residency requirement. Freshmen and sophomores are also required
to have specified meal plans. Brand new transfer students with <48 UCM accepted credit
hours are also required to reside on campus (and must reach 60 hours after attending
to remain exempt).

Residential Student Outcomes
University Housing strives to create an on-campus living experience that assists residents in developing skills and abilities to accomplish the following:
Be successful: Students will learn and develop skills to achieve success with their academics, job, finances, and their professional goals. Students will learn skills and abilities to contribute to their learning and be active participants in their personal growth and development.
Be engaged and connected with others and the community: Students will feel a sense of belonging and connection to the UCM and local community. Students will gain skills to make meaningful connections to others and gain an acceptance and understanding of others.
Embrace our world and the importance of all people: Students will learn and develop skills to enhance their lives through a broader understanding of relationships with others, society, and the world. Students will learn skills to demonstrate their role in a welcoming and caring community.
Develop life skills and become self-aware: Students will learn and develop skills to achieve personal responsibility for living in a community, solving one’s problems, accepting personal role in challenges, failures and successes, living a healthy lifestyle, and other life skills.

Fall 2023
August
10-13 Residence Hall and Apartment move-in (See Residence Hall Move-In and Apartment Move-in pages for specific dates/times)
14: Classes begin
18: Last day to change meal plan for fall 2023
30: Fall room change request period begins (via Housing office)
September
5: Labor Day holiday, CLASSES DISMISSED and UNIVERSITY OFFICES CLOSED
7: Last day of Room change request period (via Housing office)
October
12: Fall Break (Classes not in session; offices open
13: Fall Break (Classes not in session; all offices closed
November
15: Deadline to cancel for Spring semester and get housing deposit refunded. *This is only for those eligible to cancel without penalty: those graduating, student
teaching, studying abroad, departing UCM.
17: Residence halls close at 6pm for Thanksgiving break (Apartments remain open)
20-24: Thanksgiving Break, CLASSES DISMISSED
26: Residence Halls open, Noon (apartments remain open)
28 - 29: Room Change Period via Housing Office (those wanting to go into rooms with
a current student must have roommate sign off on 28th)
December
1: 2023-2024 apartment application goes live at 8am for students to get on waitlist
Loft Return: Time/date TBD, East Ellis (stairway near laundry room) and Todd Hall
(by Westside Dining)
8: Residence halls close at 6 pm for semester break, last day to cancel spring meal
plan (if eligible)
January
7: Residence halls reopen: 9 am for new students, Noon for returning students
12: Last day to change meal plan for spring 2024
16-19: Current residents of The Crossing wishing to stay in their same apartment
complete agreement via Housing Office
23-24: Current residents of The Crossing wishing to move to another apartment within
The Crossing complete agreement via Housing Office
24-25: Room change request period via Housing office (those wanting to go into rooms
with a current student must have roommate sign off on 23rd)
29: Apartments (The Crossing) will begin being offered to new applications for 2024-2025
on a rolling basis via email (offered based on time application is received)
February
7-9: Current residents of Foster-Knox/Nickerson/Todd Apartments wishing to stay in
their same apartment complete agreement via Housing Office
9: Priority date to submit your housing agreement to be eligible for the first round
of online room sign-up/selection
13-14: Current residents of Foster-Knox/Nickerson/Todd Apartments wishing to move
to another apartment within their current apartment complex complete agreement via
Housing Office
15-18: Room retention sign-up (if you want to keep your current room) for those that
will be on a designated upper-class floor next year
16: Apartments (Foster-Knox, Nickerson, Todd) will be begin being offered on a rolling
basis to new applications for 2024-2025 via email for (offered based on time application
is received)
27: Online open sign-up/selection begins for those who submitted agreements by priority
date (Open selection to live in any residence hall)
March
01: Spring Break begins, residence halls close at 6pm
02-10: Spring Break, CLASSES DISMISSED:
4-13: Current residents of Greenwood Park/Central Village wishing to stay in their
same apartment complete agreement via Housing Office
10: Residence halls reopen at Noon from Spring Break
12: Online residence hall open sign-up selection continues on a first-come, first-serve
basis for those who submit agreements after priority date
15: Apartments (Central Village, Greenwood Park) will be offered to new applications
for 2024-2025 on a rolling basis via email (offered based on time application is received)
April
09 Last day to pick residence hall room via online room selection for 2024-2025 (current
residents)
Loft Returns: Check email for updates
May
3: Residence halls close at 6 pm for end of year*
