Activities will focus on intensive piano study, with daily private lessons, performance workshops, and classes in music theory and piano literature. Workshop topics include stage deportment, life as a college music major, and an introduction to collaborative piano skills (rehearsal techniques, vertical alignment, score study). An annual highlight of the camp is the Monster Piano Ensemble Reading Event. Repertoire (4 hand one piano, 4 hand two piano, 6 hand and 8 hand) for all levels of experience will be posted in March so that students can get a head start before coming to camp in June. No previous ensemble experience is required! NEW for 2016: Theory classes will be divided up so that students who may be on a college-preparatory track can focus on topics typically covered on the entrance exam or first-year college theory class, and students who are in need of more rudimentary skill/drill can have a class that is suited toward their needs.

Ample practice time has been scheduled each day on our fleet of Steinway grand and Boston upright pianos, all of which are maintained to the highest levels of excellence. Counselors will be available during practice hours to answer questions and to help with developing practice techniques. Outside of class and practice time, several recreational activities will take place at various Warrensburg parks. Family and friends are welcome to attend the Friday afternoon Honors Recital in Hart Recital Hall, which will conclude the Institute.

A fee of $425 includes five nights lodging in one of the university’s modern, air-conditioned residence halls, meals from Sunday through Friday and all planned recreational activities. The fee for commuters is $325, and lunches may be purchased for an additional $45. The deadline for application is June 15. An enrollment fee of $50 (applied toward tuition) is required. The fee will be refunded in full if the student withdraws before June 15. After June 15, a $25 administrative fee will be deducted from the refund. T-shirts are included with the tuition.
