The Center for Global Education

Dr. Joseph Lewandowski, Dean, The Honors College and International Affairs

Message from the Dean

As the Dean of International Affairs, it is my genuine privilege to welcome you to the Center for Global Education (CGE) at the University of Central Missouri.

With core areas dedicated to exchange and sponsored students, study abroad, and international faculty and scholar services—and as the home of UCM’s CEA-accredited English Language Institute (ELI)—the CGE is the academic and cultural hub of UCM’s internationalization efforts.

As you will discover, our mission is to foster a global perspective in all areas of the university’s endeavors—from classrooms and laboratories to residence halls, and in the many forms of co-curricular student engagement and experience available on campus and in the wider Warrensburg community.

It’s a fact: the world is globalizing. The Center for Global Education aims to play a key role in that complex and uneven process by serving all students, faculty, and staff as they strive to broaden and deepen their perspectives, knowledge, and career training in ways that make them both globally engaged citizens and highly competitive in an increasingly global market.

UCM is a global university. Indeed, in its recent history more than 3,000 international students from approximately 70 countries have called UCM home each year, and nearly 400 US students study abroad annually. Additionally, the university typically hosts numerous international faculty and researchers, and is a top producer of US Fulbright Scholars.

Under the outstanding leadership of Ms. Sarah Pattison, Interim Director of the CGE, and Ms. Valerie Heming, Director of the ELI, we continue to expand on our recent successes, as well as develop new global educational, professional, and cultural opportunities for students, faculty, and staff.

Again, welcome to the Center for Global Education. We look forward to working with you as you pursue your own path in today’s global world.

Sincerely,

Dr. Joseph D Lewandowski
Dean, The Honors College & International Affairs
