English Proficiency and other application requirements

Per new SEVIS regulations, English language proficiency must be demonstrated by exchange students coming in on a J visa. English language proficiency can be demonstrated by the submission of the following scores:

Undergraduate

IBT (Internet-based): 61
PBT (Paper-based): 500
IELTS: 5.5

Graduate

IBT (Internet-based): 79
PBT (Paper-based): 550
ILETS: 6.0

ETS or PTE

Official scores must be sent electronically directly from ETS ore PTE. Our school code is 6090.

IELTS

We except a soft copy emailed by either your or the student to testingservices@ucmo.edu.

No Score

If no score is provided, then students will be given an English language test to determine their level of proficiency. If a student does not test out of the English Language Institute's requirements for collegiate academic courses, then the student will be placed in UCM's Intensive Englilsh Program for the first semester of study.  Students are not guaranteed to take academic coursework during their second semester.  In order to be enrolled in "regular" academic coursework during a student's second semester of study at UCM, the student must demonstrate the minimum language proficiency required to exit the Intensive English Program. If a student provides scores of a minimum TOEFL/ IELTS/ PTE score prior to the start of their second semester, then they will be eligible for academic coursework without completing the Intensive English Program.

At this time there is no minimum GPA for undergraduate exchange student candidates.

Exchange coordinators will receive a DS-2019 and official welcome letter from UCM only after all application materials have been submitted. Students should use their DS-2019 to obtain a J-1 Visa from their nearest consulate or embassy.

Please refer to Exchange Student Admission Requirements for a complete list of all application requirements.
