Annual Events

Mule Haul - August

Need help getting all your stuff moved in? Each year, UCM staff, faculty and upperclass students volunteer to help first-year students move into their residence halls on move-in day.

Week of Welcome - August

WOW is the first week of school, starting with move-in day. It is an action-packed week of social and educational events and annual traditions kicking off the new school year, including the Mules Kick-Off, Convocation, the hypnotist Jim Wand, various well-known comedians and more.

Get the Red Out - September

Get the Red Out is one of the best days of the year to be a Mule. Students, along with the Warrensburg community, are encouraged to dress in their red and black, and join in the celebration. It starts off with a street fair before the first home football game of the year. Thousands of people from both the campus and the community attend the street fair each year.

The Fighting Mule

The mule has been UCM's official mascot since 1922, when the school changed its name from Normal #2 to Central Missouri State Teachers College. Calling our athletic teams the Normals no longer worked, so a naming contest was held. The mule, with all its historical significance to the state of Missouri, beat more than 80 student submissions. In addition to our current live mule, Mancow (a gift from alumnus Erich "Mancow" Muller), there's Mo, a costumed mascot who can be found cheering for the Mules and Jennies at games and other events, and a cartoon version aimed at a younger audiences.

Game Traditions

One of the best ways to immerse yourself into campus life is to go to athletic functions. A UCM football game entertains with outstanding Division II athletes, loud fans, a great halftime show, the ROTC firing a cannon when the Mules score and Mo the Mule doing pushups at the end zone for each point scored. UCM students are encouraged to dress in red and black and get loud! You won't be alone -- according to the NCAA, UCM's football team ranked 12th in the nation in attendance this year.

If football isn't your thing, UCM has 14 other sports to participate in or cheer for. Since 1983, UCM has won or shared 136 MIAA championships, more than any other school in our league.

Alma Mater
UCM stands proud and noble, serving all who ask.
In the center of our nation, joyful in her task.
Red and black her colors fly, faith and vision, dreams unite.
Leading all who look for truth, to hold her honor bright.
Our beloved Alma Mater, hail to UCM.
UCM the chimes are calling, hear their joyful sound.
In our hearts their echoes falling, while we gather round;
Striving on with purpose clear, loyal to the school we love.
Let us never falter while your banner flies above.
Our beloved Alma Mater, hail to UCM.
